More Stamp-Cells
'Get Things Going' mixed media on magazine cover on wood Done on the cover pages of 'Cheri', an adult magazine from the late 1980's. The back page, where the title comes from, is an ad for body-building pills for men (mostly). The front page features a young lady with a nice pair of braces.. This is the front cover of the same magazine used in 'Centrefold' [see Stamp-Cells Page]. |
'Wine Festival'
mixed media on promotional literature on wood
Tom from the North has this one now, I swapped it with him for a deadly garden sculpture of a penguin :-)
'Video-Waves'
mixed media on promotional literature (from a video rental shop) on wood
There's the pattern of a TV remote control casing to be seen here, and the beige background stripes are done with a piece of wooden decking. Started in 2010 (and finished in 2013), the XtraVision catalogue paper has a bit about the Incredible Hulk, who was given his powers from gamma-rays.
'Nuts to This' mixed media on magazine cover on wood This I did on the cover pages of a lads' mag, 'Nuts', in 2008. Do they still publish lads' mags? Anyway if the image resolution was better you'd be able to see the neon ink of the logo and 'headlines', underneath the paint. Bit more to do on it in anyways. |
'Tourist Trap' mixed media on junkmail on wood This is my interpretation of package holidays, including a herd of tourists with various stages of sunburnt-ness, walking around and mingling with eachother, unhooked from the treadmill for a couple of weeks(!) I used a plastic sock hook and a car aerial, among other things, to get the shapes and patterns I wanted here. |
'Somewhere Else' mixed media on magazine cover on wood This painting started out as a Stamp-Cell, but I couldn't get it looking the way I wanted. I kept working on it long after all the original (GCN) magazine cover had been obliterated. The first photo is from when I had just begun to stick things on to it. I rarely do this with Stamp-cells, usually it's only if they're not working out. The Second photo is of how it was quite recently.. I've made a few more slight changes since but this is it more or less finished. There was an ad on the back cover (of the GCN mag) with a full page photo of a butcher shop window. I can't remember if it was for a butcher shop or a nightclub, but that's where the title comes from. This is where the title of the exhibition* in Greenland in August '16 comes from. *(in association with IFEAF (Institute Of Fictional Exhibitions Foundation) **Check out finished image and Exhibition on the News at One Page on this Site. |
