For the last 6 months I've been spending one weekend every 3 weeks doing a course in Art Therapy in Smithfield. There's a good mix of people from art and/or healthcare backgrounds taking the classes and 2 amazing tutors plus every weekend a visiting tutor, all with experience working in this relatively new profession.
During the course we were seeing what it's like to do the type of exercises that art therapists use to help clients get started making images.
The emphasis is on the process itself being therapeutic and not taking apart images and attaching a psychiatric label.
It's a deadly buzz, I'd recommend it to anyone.
We're also doing a personal visual journal, photos of which I'll post here after it's completed.
